Mighty Morphin Power Rangers : the Movie was the 1st Ranger Movie.

It tells the story of 6 teens (the ones we know from the TV series, season 2/3 of MMPR) who are Power Rangers. Their enemies, Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa unleash an even more viscious force called Ivan Ooze.
While the Rangers battle his grunts, Ivan invades the Command Center and trashes it. He leaves behind a wrecked Center and a very weak Zordon. When the Rangers return and discover what went about, they are sent to the planet Pheados. Their mission is to retieve new Ranger Power and new Zords. They quest for the Powers of the Ninjetti.
Of course, when Ivan Ooze finds out what the Rangers are planning, he sends grunts to the far away planet. Powerless, the Rangers have a hard time defending themselves, untill help arrives. Dulcea chases the grunts away. At first she sees the Rangers as nothing more then another bunch of intruders to her planet, yet when they mention Zordon, she takes them to her sanctuary.
She helps the Rangers to get in touch with their innner Ninjetti spirits and from there on out, they head out to find the monolith that holds the source to new Ranger Powers. In the mean time, Ivan Ooze is rather succesfull in taking over Angel Grove and digging up two war machines ; the Ecto Morphicons.
The Rangers eventually do find the new Powers and head back to Earth. They bring on their new Ninja Zords to fight Ivan Ooze, who has merged with one of the machines. They take the fight to space, where the Rangers hurl Ivan in the trajectory of a comet, that hits and destroys him.
The Rangers return to Earth, and with their new found Powers manage to restore the Command Center and Zordon to old glory.

This story is out of sinq with the TV show. MMPR season 3 has it's own rendition of a story involving the Rangers on a quest to find Ninja Powers (the episodes very fittingly called 'Ninja Quest'). Many visual aspects also differ from the TV series in this movie : The Ranger outfits (leather/latex i.o. spandex) the Command Center, Alpha 5, Zordon, the Zord cockpits, even the town of Angel Grove itsself, since the movie was shot, not in Callifornia but in Australia. The Ninja Zords and Ecto Morphicons were completely CGI i.o. stunt people in Zord/monster suits in a cardboard city. As opposed to the TV series, this production has no Sentai footage mixed in whatsoever. It was a nice refreshing take on the Power Ranger story and setting.
