Series 3 begins with Rita's brother Rito Revolto arriving on the moon with Tengas. Rita uses Rito in an ambush against the Rangers which ends up with the destruction of the Thunderzords and the original Power Coins. The Rangers travel to the Desert of Despair to find Ninjor and gain the Ninja Powers and new Zords.

With these powers, the Rangers are capable of taking on the combined might of Lord Zedd and Rita.
